Resolution EC 014

Resolved, that pursuant to Executive Council Bylaw Rule VIII.2.(c), the Executive Council creates a Committee on the Mission and Ministry in Haiti (“Committee”) to discharge the Executive Council’s obligations under Resolution D060 adopted at the 81^st meeting of General Convention and to identify the ways that The Episcopal Church can support clinics, schools, and other ministries of the Diocese of Haiti; and

Resolved, that the Committee shall be composed of not less than three (3) members of the Executive Council and shall report on its progress and any recommendations to the Executive Council and shall continue its work and existence until an act of the Executive Council.

Resuelve que, de conformidad con la Regla VIII.2.(c) del Reglamento del Consejo Ejecutivo, el Consejo Ejecutivo cree un Comité sobre la Misión y el Ministerio en Haití («Comité») para cumplir con las obligaciones del Consejo Ejecutivo en virtud de la Resolución D060 adoptada en la ^81ª reunión de la Convención General y para identificar las formas en que la Iglesia Episcopal puede apoyar a las clínicas, escuelas y otros ministerios de la Diócesis de Haití; y

Resuelve, que el Comité estará compuesto por no menos de tres (3) miembros del Consejo Ejecutivo e informará sobre su progreso y cualquier recomendación al Consejo Ejecutivo y continuará su trabajo y existencia hasta una ley del Consejo Ejecutivo.

The Diocese of Haiti is our largest diocese by number of members and congregations, and the humanitarian situation there is growing more critical, with reports saying that half the population is experiencing food insecurity. In keeping with Resolution D060, we need to understand better how our churchwide structure can support clinics, schools, and other diocesan ministries that can make a difference at this critical time.

A note that this is not a committee about the governance issues in the Diocese of Haiti. Those have been assigned to the Standing Commission on Structure, Governance, Constitution and Canons by Resolution D071, and we will be taking that up at the interim bodies meeting in a couple of weeks.

La diócesis de Haití es nuestra diócesis más grande por número de miembros y congregaciones, y la situación humanitaria allí es cada vez más crítica, con informes que dicen que la mitad de la población está experimentando inseguridad alimentaria. De acuerdo con la Resolución D060, necesitamos entender mejor cómo nuestra estructura eclesiástica puede apoyar a las clínicas, escuelas y otros ministerios diocesanos que pueden marcar la diferencia en este momento crítico.

Cabe señalar que no se trata de un comité sobre cuestiones de gobernanza en la Diócesis de Haití. Éstas han sido asignadas a la Comisión Permanente sobre Estructura, Gobierno, Constitución y Cánones por la Resolución D071, y nos ocuparemos de ellas en la reunión de los órganos interinos dentro de un par de semanas.
