Resolved, that the Executive Council agrees to grant $38,000 in 2021 to the Li Tim-Oi Center in the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles (EDLA). This grant will provide $2,000 for Mission support and $36,000 for Education and Training resources and services provided by the Li Tim-Oi Center.
Explanation
This grant is a request for support from the Li Tim-Oi Center in the Diocese of Los Angeles at the urging of the Right Reverend Diane Jardine Bruce, Suffragan Bishop. It is supported by the China Fund Committee at the Episcopal Church Center, and the Rev. Cn. Bruce W. Woodcock, Episcopal Church partnership officer for Asia and the Pacific. The project will continue to be an incubator and center for lay ministry among persons of Chinese ancestry.
The Executive Council provided grants totaling $200,000 to the Li Tim-Oi Center in the Diocese of Los Angeles: $150,000 during 2014-2016 which was intended to be a one-time grant to serve as an incubator for expanding ministry among persons of Chinese ancestry between 2014 and 2017, and $50,000 total for use in 2018 and 2019. The current program effort is focused on lay leadership training. The proposed $38,000 is much lower than the $63,000 initially requested for the 2021-2022 academic year.
China Trust funds restricted for Chinese of the Dispersion, as of May 11, 2021 totaled $6,089,709; generating annual dividends of $235,415 in 2020 for allocation in 2021 within three categories: Evangelism at 22% (Mission at $51,791), Education and Training at 69% (Program at $162,436), and Medical at 9% (Scholarships at $21,187). This grant will provide $2,000 for Mission support and $36,000 for Education and Training resources and services provided by the Li Tim-Oi Center.
